We’re excited to share our recently released series of articles based on GenderWorks’ research partnership with the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA). Lisa interviewed the HBA’s Honorable Mentor award winners – aka male ally executives – from the past 20 years to explore how men can be effective allies for women in the workplace.

There is great emphasis regarding the need for senior leadership buy-in and support in order to create and maintain a robust leadership pipeline of female talent. Clearly, senior leaders are an important piece of the puzzle yet, managers in middle-level and early management roles are by far the ones who most critically determine the size and strength of the female talent pool from which to draw.
COVID-19 has toppled major aspects of our lives, key among them how we care for our children. Suddenly, parents are working from home while simultaneously minding and overseeing the schooling of their kids. For many families, this new reality has laid bare, and heightened, the gender inequities in care work.

We greatly underestimate the power of societal norms to influence our lives at the deepest levels. Covid has turned a spotlight on gender roles at home and the media emphasizes that men are failing to do their share.
In the fall of 1870, a handful of black women cast their votes, joining their White female counterparts in Wyoming as the first women in the world granted the legal right to vote and run for office. One-hundred and fifty years later, on August 11th, 2020, Kamala Harris became the first woman of color on a major party ticket.
